Field trip

von

Yay, I can get out of the city for a change.

With a project manager I go on a little field trip to visit my new project. We have a contract to take measurements of two schools and create measurement drawings. Second part of the contract is to create fire protection planning taking into account the current regulations. One school is over a hundred years old, the other is a building from the GDR.

My part is the fire protection planning. During my years as a construction manager I became a specialist for fire proof doors and door technology which is a field not many architects like to work on. It’s quite complex.

My project manager is the best organised manager in the office, I am a bit scared to work with her. She has very high standards and finds any mistake.

This meeting is quite important for us because we will be working for a new client. If the job goes well, more contracts might follow.

The day is very long. We walk around both schools and inspect every little corner. No break.

We have the new measurement drawings with us. While we walk around with the new client we take control dimensions. Soon we realise, both drawings are full of mistakes. The new client is quite curious and we have a hard time to hide that we find mistakes in the drawings made by our office.
